Impact of the HLS on the Rural Nature of the Whitaker Mill Area
Not the least of our issues is the impact the school and its incumbent traffic will bring on the rural nature of the Whitaker Mill Road community and its environment. The Whitaker Mill Road community is special in that it is a rural enclave representative of what Harford County used to be: It starts at the one-lane bridge over Winters Run, and includes several historic sites: the historic Mill; the Magness farms, the Radke farm; and the Country Life horse farm. There are also several other relatively large properties that are comprised of streams, brambles, and wetland, that provide a much needed habitat for birds and small animals, a filter for our water, and a source of clean air. However, the continual, and relentless over-development in Harford County is ruining communities like this, and damaging the local drainage systems and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This is not progress!
We have the right to maintain the rural nature of our community, and we want county officials to understand that we do not want Whitaker Mill Road to undergo major alterations to support the heavy traffic that comes with an unwanted development.
